/ Under the Wave

This is a conceptual cover and layout design for Under the Wave, a short story published in The New Yorker. The story follows a mother and child as they grieve and gradually recover from the aftermath of a devastating tragedy. This project reimagines the story’s opening spreads and visual identity as a standalone publication.

The book cover aims to convey a sense of loss, transformation, and resilience, subtly drawing the viewer in with enigmatic typography—strands of hair—hinting at deeper layers of meaning without revealing the story’s secrets.
